Today we collected information about the capital of Lithuania - Vilnius.
We had the opportunity to see a delegation of the royal couple from Belgium.
Then we were joined by Alina - a guide who showed us around the city.
We saw:
Church of St. Peter and Paul in Vilnius
The Church of St. Peter and Paul on Antokol in Vilnius (one of the most famous districts of the city) is so beautiful that even the communists in the times of the USSR did not destroy it or replace it with anything else. Therefore, in the years of the reign of the Soviet Union, it was the only active temple in the city and the whole area. It served as a cathedral. At that time, there was a sarcophagus with the relics of Saint Casimir, who is the patron saint of the city.

2. Archedral Basilica of St. Stanislaus the Bishop and St. Ladislaus.
The basilica was erected in the heart of the city, on the site of a former pagan temple, right next to the defensive castle. It survived both the most beautiful and the most dramatic events in the history of Vilnius and the entire Lithuanian state. The temple is a symbol of Lithuanian baptism.
3.Monument to Prince Gediminas.
This ruler, known for his diplomatic skills, left an extremely deep mark on the history of his country. The bronze sculpture depicting Gediminas faces the bell tower in Cathedral Square and depicts the Grand Duke right next to his horse. Gediminas holds a sword in his left hand and blesses the city with his right hand.
4. Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Vilnius.
The Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Vilnius is located in an apartment at bernardyński alley (Bernardinų g. 11 Street) in the Old Town, where the poet lived from Easter to June 1822.
The institution plays an educational role, promotes and encourages thinking about literature. In four rooms there are three permanent exhibitions: – "Adam Mickiewicz and Lithuania" – "Philomaci and Adam Mickiewicz" – "Women in the life of Adam Mickiewicz".
5. Church of St. Anna and monuments of Adam Mickiewicz.
St. Anne's Church in Vilnius is a unique object. Among the other monuments of sacred architecture, the city is distinguished not only by its pedigree dating back to the Middle Ages, but also by the uniqueness of the style in which it was created. It is the most magnificent example of late Gothic architecture in the lands of the former Republic of Poland, called flaming Gothic.
6. Sanctuary of Divine Mercy
Without exaggeration, we can write that the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Vilnius is more important than the one in Krakow. Here is the first original image of Merciful Jesus (the more common name is Jesus I Trust in You), which was created according to the instructions of Saint Faustina Kowalska.
7. The tenement house of Maryla Rodowicz's parents.
The whole family of Maryla Rodowicz comes from Vilnius. Her father Wiktor Rodowicz worked at the Stefan Batory University. Mother Janina Rodowicz-Krasucka came from a family associated with the theatre. Maryla Rodowicz's paternal grandparents ran a pharmacy near the Gate of Dawn Under the Swan. In 1945, during the repatriation, the Rodowicz family left for Polish. Maryla was born in Zielona Góra.
8. Literary street in Vilnius.
A winding, charming street of the Vilnius Old Town with old tenement houses and mysterious courtyards. Literacka Street – this name has been the name since the beginning of the nineteenth century, when it housed bookstores, antique shops, printing houses. Students lived here.
We managed to find two tablets dedicated to Polish writers.
9. Old town and picturesque streets.
The Old Town of Vilnius delighted us with its colorful streets, tenement houses, alleys. A lot of photogenic corners here, such as teapots integrated into the wall of the building at Bernardinu Street, cobbled Rusų Street or literatų Street mentioned above.
10. The culminating point of the tour of Vilnius was the Gate of Dawn (lit. Aušros Vartai), which is the most valuable treasure of Vilnius with its image of the Mother of Mercy famous for its miracles and graces. It is he who in a special way attracts tourists and pilgrims from all over the world.
We also invited our Lithuanian friends for delicious pizza.
After gathering information about Vilnius, we went to school to work together on the acquired material.
We are already looking forward to tomorrow.
