Welcome from Kaunas.
On this day, our project group is joined by Gienia - a guide with whom we will visit Kaunas.
The first place from which we started visiting in the former capital of Lithuania was the castle.
We had the opportunity to see the monument of Pope John Paul II, which is located on a hill in Santaka Park, where in 1993 the Pope celebrated Mass during his pilgrimage to Lithuania. The author is a Polish sculptor Czesław Dźwigaj.
We visited the interior of St. George's Church and the Franciscan Monastery located nearby.
Ołtarz jak i wnętrze kościoła niestety są w remoncie.
A few quick photos at the mock-ups located in front of the entrance to the church. On the left it is written "I am a daughter of the Lord God" on the right "I am a son of the Lord God".
Then we passed the Monument to Motiejus Valančius (Motiejus Valančius)
Bishop of Samogitia, one of the first Lithuanians, who contributed to the revival of Lithuanian national consciousness.
The Church of the Holy Trinity founded by the voivode A. Massalski at the beginning. XVII century for the Bernardine Order. A monastery was founded at the church, which after the dissolution of the Order in 1864 was transferred to the premises of the seminary. It is located here to this day. On the way, we also saw the town hall, and also posed with colleagues from Lithuania for photos with cricket and ant figurines.
The next point of the tour was the atmospheric Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is the oldest church of Kaunas, also called the church of Vytautas. It was founded in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries by the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas. The temple stands in a very picturesque place, on the bank of the Nemunas River.
The beautiful Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul is the main cathedral of Kaunas. It is worth remembering that in this temple the Holy Mass was celebrated by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Lithuania in September 1993.
After an intensive tour, we had the opportunity to try traditional food in "Berneliai Užeiga"
Full, but still full of energy, we went shopping and then to school to gather information about Kaunas. Then we said goodbye to our new friends and returned to the hotel.
